CUSTOMER QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I have 5-100 lb dumbells in 5 lb increments. How many racks will I need?
I have 3 racks which holds 5 -75 lb dumbbells in 5 lb increments. My dumbbells are a pretty standard hexagonal shape and size so I don’t see being able to fit up to 100 lbs. I don’t have any room left for more than 75 lbs.
Answer #1 on May 18, 2016
Definitely 2 racks. You might be able to do without the third row. Three rows fits all our 10 through 70 pounders (5-lbs increments as well), so 4 total rows may fit all your 5-100 lbs. It’s also more comfortable to grab weights from higher shelves as opposed to the very bottom one. Hope that helps!

Can this rack hold 55 - 80 pounds hex dumbbells in increments of 5 and will they fit
Yes. On the top rack I have 8 hex dumbbells from 50-65 lbs in 5 lb increments. On the second rack, I also have 8 hex dumbbells, 30-45 lbs. In total, I have 16 dumbbells on the two racks so even though you have heavier (larger) dumbbells after 65 lbs, you only have 12 total. In addition, I still have space on the racks. And like another poster, I also purchased the bottom rack and have everything from 2 lbs up to 65 lbs in 5 lb increments.

We have all the weights from 5 to 75 pounds, and the rack holds them all solidly. We bought the third row of the rack separately, but if you are only looking to hold your 55 to 80 pounders, you won’t need that third row. However, it’s good for you to know that you have the option of expanding your rack if need be in the future, and that it will still hold your entire collection.

What is the distance (using the top 2 shelves only) from the floor to the bottom of the middle shelf?
The shelf angles forward, so 16″ from the floor to the bottom of the middle shelf in the front and 18″ in the back.

How hard/easy is it to access dumbbells on each tier? I am concerned that it is a bit of a struggle (especially with heavier weights due to the shape)
I don’t have any issues with accessing the heavier weights. The heaviest weights I have are 70 lbs on the third optional tier installed at the bottom of the rack. With the tapered back shape, it actually makes it easier to access the weights. I had purchased the vertical short 3-tiered rack and that was a challenge even with the medium size weights (25-40 lbs). The shape is tapered enough that it actually helps a lot.

I put the heaviest dumbbells on the top rack, 50, 55, 60, and 65 pairs so I can lift them straight up. The 45 lbs and below are on the bottom two racks (I have a rack at the very bottom) and I have no problem getting them out.

What is the metal thickness gauge on the rack?
I own this and it’s very solid. The metal is about 3/16 thick. I believe you will be happy with the purchase. I have a complete weight set stored on it 5 to 50 lbs
Answer #1 on July 20, 2015
The rack itself is flat with an edge that drops down in the front so the shape looks like _V_. The rack is actually fairly thin I would say less than a 1/4 of an inch thick, but it is very sturdy. The beams on each side of the rack are closer to 1” or 2″ thick. I’ve got the rack fully loaded with dumbells from 10-65 and its solid.

What is maximum shelf weight capacity?
Sorry I’m not sure what max capacity are on these shelves, but can tell you what I have on a couple of shelves to give you an idea. I have pairs of, the hex dumbbells, 40-55 lb on one, totalling 380lb and these dumbbells take up the whole shelf and another I have 60-70 lb, totalling 390 lb and takes up about 90% of the shelf. Obviously, the heavier the weights get, the more space they take up. I’m not sure what weights you have in mind, but these shelves are pretty sturdy and can only fit so many on each shelf. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

Is this rack strong enough to support a pair of dumbbells from 50-100 pounds, in 10 pound increments? Could 2 tiers handle that?
I’ve got mine setup with a third shelf (yet to be populated) so far filled with weights from 5 to 55 pounds and intend to fill the third row with 55, 60, 65, and 70 pound weights . I am certain it will hold that (500 pounds) with ease. Right now my second course is populated with 35, 40, 45, and 50 pound weights (340 lbs) and I have no concerns. In your setup I would imagine your first course course would hold a pair of 50, 60, and 70 lb weights (360, so no problem) and your second course: 80, 90, and 100 pound weights (540 pounds). I would think (based on how sturdy this setup feels that you would have no issues with this. My only concern would be the center of gravity. If I were you I would assemble it with a top row and use the middle row at the bottom position instead. I’m not sure how the manufacturer would feel about that, but the physics brain in me would prefer to have some of that weight closer to the ground. That’s just me. Either way I have no doubt the shelves will support the weight. The third shelf I ordered was a clone of the first two.

"With plans to add to my dumbbell set, I needed a larger rack. After reading the various reviews and already owning other Body Solid products, this was the only rack I would consider. My 10-50 set looks great on this rack! I have 40s/45s/50s on the top rack--with plenty of room to spare--and 10s thru 35s on the middle rack. I bought the 3rd tier separately. When I get more dumbbells, 60-75 will be on the top rack, 40-55 on the middle, and 35 and under on the bottom. This rack is just that solid. It's a tank! You are able to place the weights how you want them for your easiest access. Take note that it's a large rack--longer than 5 feet--but it's flushes against the wall quite well and doesn't overly protrude out. Plenty of clearance to remove and replace weights without banging against each other or against the rack. I, too, wish the 3rd tier was included, but I see why it's not. Three tiers for only up to 50lbs is too much. Making the 3rd tier optional captures more market, as most wanting only two tiers would opt for another item over a higher priced 3-tier product. Had I realized how nice my weights looked on this rack, I would have upgraded from my old rack a long time ago, even before planning to buy more dumbbells."

"Very pleased with this purchase, easy to assemble and solid. I have added the 3rd tier and weights from 5# to 50# including 8's and 12's and this thing doesn't budge or rock. A must have for your set of dumbbells'."

"Product arrived on time in pretty good condition. The box showed some wear and tear from the rough handling I suppose. There were some wear marks on the stabilizing legs from the tie-down straps coming apart inside the box causing items in the box to rub against one another. Everything was included and only took a few more minutes to attach the GDRT60 Optional 3rd Tier for GDR60 Dumbbell Rack I purchased also. Feels very sturdy with a high quality finish. I will still give it a good rating, besides the few imperfections. I am satisfied with my purchase."

"This is probably the the best rack you can get unless you want to spend more than 400 or so. I definitely recommend getting the third rack with it and I can tell you with owning a lot of equipment like rogue fitness it’s a must for home or garage gyms for its value if you have a large set of dumbbells, mine are metal dumbbells up to 50 then after that I have rubber dumbbells and I have 5-60 on my rack, and if you have more weight for the price I’d just get two rack. Again you won’t find something this nice or commercial grade for cheaper. I was gone for four years overseas with all my weights on it and still as solid as I left it, it will scratch though but as long as you take care of it and there’s weights on it won’t be a problem. Any other rack I’ve looked at for this price I could break with my hands and or was rickety. Again if you want anything better your going to have to spend some money."
